Helping Hands

HOME SUPPORT SERVICE

Affordable home, garden and personal help for people wanting to stay independent.

Our aim is to help you stay in your own home, in safety and comfort.

Everything from: 5 minute jobs, changing light bulbs, fuses and washers, stacking firewood, fixing curtains, rewiring clothes lines, installing handrails, cleaning spouting and windows, turning mattresses, rearranging furniture, rubbish removal and general gardening jobs.

We can advise you if you need a qualified tradesman and can provide support in dealing with other agencies and helping services

Helping Hands — Who are they?

Our Co-ordinator:

  • Arranges reliable tradespeople, groups and individuals
  • Checks in with you after the work is done to make sure you got what you asked for
  • Can put you in touch with other helping services, if that would be useful
    All for FREE

Our partners include a number of helpers and handymen, and include Willing Workers, a community group providing:

  • Employment to people who face barriers to work
  • Professionally managed services to Dunedin residents
  • Quotes for Work and Income (if needed)
  • All at low cost

Helping Hands — How does it work?

Just contact our Co-ordinator and tell her what you need. We will try to meet all reasonable requests. She will then put you in touch with reliable tradespeople, arrange a quote, and help you manage the workers.

All our workers are carefully vetted, including police checks.

Cost

You are expected to pay for our partners' labour and material costs, although we make every effort to keep these costs as low as possible.

You won't be paying for our time.
