Why Family and Whanau Support?

Managing a family, work, and life can be tricky at the best of times. Our Childcare Centre can do its best for your children, if we are helping you (when you need it) do the best too. The Family Whanau Advocacy and Support Worker is fully funded by the Mission, as part of our commitment to working with people in their lives.

• Your child moving to the nursery or preschool
• Specialist advice on matters of concern
• Information and other resources about child development
• The trials and triumphs of parenting
• Dealing with other agencies
• Finding the right school
• Transition to school
• Referrals to programmes and other agencies
• Celebrations of milestones and achievements
• Methodist Women's Fellowship grants for gifted and disadvantaged children

Family Whanau Support Networks

The Family Whanau Advocacy and Support Worker has extensive contacts with other helping agencies throughout Dunedin and wider Otago. These networks help her ensure she has up to date resources on a wide range of issues that can affect families, from WINZ subsidies and Working for Families through to behavioural and developmental issues. It also means that from time to time, We are able to put on workshops for our parents and caregivers, using outside expertise to educate and inform us all (families and staff).

Vikky Spiers is a qualified social worker with a degree in Social Work and Community Development (BSCW).
Vikky is committed to working alongside families to help them reach their full potential. Vikky is employed by The Mission, not by a government department. This means that her sole responsibility is to work with your family in the way that best meets your needs.
